Project Description
Water Hyacinth grows abundantly in Vietnam, and the most common species (Eichhornia Crassipes) regenerates completely in 2 weeks. Unlike straw, there is no need to plant water hyacinth and you can harvest it daily. In preparation for weaving, the stems are separated and graded; and then split and air dried.
The dried stem fibers are then twisted into rope and woven into hats, shoes, and handbags for the fashion industry; and placemats, baskets, and area rugs for the home industry.
